After the artificial intelligence (AI) boom of 2022 with the rise of ChatGPT and LLMs, businesses and individuals wanted more. Since then, there has been plenty of innovation in AI and AI industries. However, none has taken over the world quite like AI agents and Agentic AI have.
According to Mistral AI, AI agents are autonomous programs powered by large language models (LLMs) that can plan, operate tools, carry out processing steps, and take action to achieve specific goals when provided with high-level instructions. AI agents use advanced language processing (NLP) capabilities to comprehend and execute complex tasks efficiently and can even collaborate to achieve more sophisticated outcomes.
Businesses have realized that simple AI tools and chatbots can not and don't always fit individual needs. Mistral AI, a French AI startup, offers users and businesses the opportunity to build personalized AI agents. These custom-built bots can be molded to perform unique tasks, simplifying your daily work.
Here's an easy-to-follow, practical guide to building your own custom AI agent with Mistral AI:
Step 1: Access the Mistral Platform
Visit the official Mistral AI platform, known as La Plateforme, which is available at Mistral AI.
Click on the Start Building option.
If you're new, simply create an account using your credentials.

Step 2: Create a New AI Agent
Once you're logged in, look for the button labeled "Create an Agent."

Step 3: Configure Your Agent
Here's the fun part: setting up your custom AI agent exactly as you need it.
Model Selection: Choose from different large language models (LLMs). We choose the Mistral Large 2.1 for this tutorial.
Randomness: This slider adjusts the creativity of responses. A setting around 0.5 strikes a good balance.
Instructions: Clearly state your agent's role or purpose. Write concise and direct instructions.
Optional Demonstrations: You can include short example interactions to guide the agent's responses.
Example of instructions: "You are an advanced content creator agent. Write clear, original, and engaging content. Adapt style and tone based on the audience. Include accurate information formatted with headings and bullet points. Use keywords naturally for SEO."

Step 4: Deploy Your Agent
Once configured, click the "Deploy" button. You have two deployment options:
Le Chat: It allows users to chat directly and interact with the custom AI agent within the Mistral AI chat interface.
API: Users can integrate their agent with external applications or websites.

We would be testing the AI agent using Mistral AI's direct chat interface.
Step 5: Test Your Custom AI Agent
Now, your custom AI agent is ready to chat!
Visit Mistral's Le Chat interface.
Enter @ in the chatbox to choose your newly created custom AI agent.
Start testing, chatting, and interacting immediately.

Conclusion:
Shifting from generative AI chatbots to LLM-powered AI agents was a much-needed big step in AI's growth. Generative AI-powered chatbots are powerful, but they are confined by pre-trained data. On the other hand, AI agents work autonomously and are capable of learning on the go. Over time, building AI agents will become much easier. Mistral AI offers a convenient, user-friendly platform to create personalized AI agents. By following these steps, you can quickly set up a unique AI that perfectly fits your tasks or business needs.
